Mallige / Mogra /Jasmine gajra was an integral part of my growing up years. To watch women freshen up every evening, neatly comb their hair and wear a string of freshly strung gajra which they’d have skilfully knotted, is a core childhood memory. I never had long enough hair as a kid so up they went like a hairband across my head held together with two hair clips.. I bet I looked every bit ridiculous. But what’s a childhood without embarrassing fashion choices carried out with the confidence of a Paris runway model ?!
