About Us
Nine by Thirty began in Sydney nearly fifteen years ago, thanks to a series of unexpected events that, at the time, felt more like setbacks than opportunities.
Like many people during a difficult economic period, I spent a fair amount of time unsuccessfully looking for a job. Somewhere between those failed applications, a chance silversmithing workshop at Sydney Art School, and a growing desire to build something meaningful while living far away from home, the seeds of Nine by Thirty were planted.
The name comes from House No. 9/30 in Cherrybrook, a quiet suburb of Sydney. It was there, in a little home with a magnificent lemon tree in the backyard, that I first decided to make something of my life on my own terms. Naming the brand Nine by Thirty felt like a way of honouring the place where it all began.
Over the years, Nine by Thirty travelled with me from Sydney to Singapore, where it found a wonderful community of clients, friends and supporters. And now, after many years away, it has come home with me to India.
Today, I find myself building Nine by Thirty from home once again this time with a little more life experience, and the same belief in creating things with meaning and heart. The brand continues to evolve, drawing inspiration from nostalgia, travel, old-world charm and the stories we collect along the way, while offering something new with every collection.
In many ways, Nine by Thirty has grown up alongside me. What began in a small house in suburban Sydney now continues its journey from home, in India, carrying with it pieces of every place and chapter that helped shape it.
It's been quite a journey and I'm grateful for it.
